The demise of Com.
Polavarapu Jaswantha Rao astonished us. He was born to Mrs.Vimala and Mr. Jaganmohana
Rao in Guntur on 29th May, 1947. His father retired as R.D.O. in Revenue
Department. As a good natured officer he brought up his children in a
disciplined manner. He could not digest his son joining Communist revolutionary
politics. To that extent, Com. Jaswantha Rao stood firm under stress and
defiant by his revolutionary politics. Mr.Jaganmohana Rao was a humanist and
serviceoriented. After his retirement he worked on the problems of pensioners
until his death.
As a student of Rangaraya
Medical College in Kakinada, Com. Jaswantha Rao took revolutionary politics.
While participating in several activities since 1970, studying and discussing
in Marxist Study Forum he adopted Marxism Leninism and Mao-Tse Tung Thought as
his philosophical outlook and dedicated his life to it. He started his activity
through students, cultural and literary fronts. Standing in support and solidarity
with the movements of rural poor and adivasis he imbibed the philosophy of
proletariat. In this course, the emergency was declared in June, 1975. With
this, he had to take up a more serious responsibility. In the process, he was
arrested in 1976 and imprisoned in Rajahmundry Central jail for 18 months and
his studies in MBBS were thus interrupted. He was released on bail from jail in
1978. According to the decision of the party, he completed his studies and
House Surgeonship and got the MBBS certificate. But, instead of doing medical
practice, he concentrated on the efforts to develop his understanding of
economic Theories. He continued studies in Economic theories with a spirit and determination
to fill up the gap of Com. Nagi Reddy. He wrote several articles right from
Kakinada and contributed to Janasakthi, telugu organ of the Party.
Party had proposed to
Com. Jaswanth Rao to marry Seshamma, third daughter of popular peoples’ artist,
play- write Com. Sunkara Satyanarayana. Thus Com. Seshamma became the life
partner of Com. Jaswantha Rao on 25th May 1978. Com. Sheshamma was an employee
and took upon herself the whole responsibility of the family. The couple has
two daughters and one son. Seshamma not only brought up her own children, but
also the children of other comrades as her own. Many times their house was full
of friends and party comrades. She took it as a responsibility and never felt
it as an additional burden. It is a legacy of all her families from the days of
National Movement to shoulder such responsibilities.
Since 1981, Com.
Jaswantha Rao took the responsibility of the Party Organs, Janashakthi-Telugu,
and English ‘Red Star’and ‘Muktigami’. Later, ie; since 1992, he took the
responsibility of publishing English Janasakthi by staying in Mumbai. Later he took
the responsibility of ‘Unity Initiative’- the English Organ. And after that,
till now he continued as the Editor of ‘The Class Struggle’, the English Organ established
by Com. Kanu Sanyal. He made tireless efforts till the first week of this
August to bring it out by writing articles according to the perceptions of the
Central Committee, CPI (ML). He represented the Party perspective clearly in
his writings. He never deviated from the political and organizational perspective
of the party. It was his greatness.
A good orator,
intellectual and a Comrade known for simplicity Com. Jaswantha Rao’s demise is
a great loss to the party and the revolutionary movement. Our Red Salute to
Comrade Jaswantha Rao. We pay our deep condolences to Seshamma, his life partner,
his children and all family members on behalf of the party.
