RED SALUTES TO COMRADE MADHU! A COMMITTED COMRADE OF REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT

Dear Friends,

Comrade Madhu, a secretariat member of CPI (M.L.) Central Committee, editor of ‘Class Struggle’, left us on the early morning of April, 16th 2021. He breathed his last by leaving the task of organizing revolutionary movement and its achievement to his fellow comrades. As it was corona infected time, the funeral of Com. Madhu was conducted in Vijayawada, to which several comrades were not able to attend. Innumerable colleagues, friends, activists, and leaders of different revolutionary organizations throughout the country grieved over his death and sent condolence messages.

Comrade Madhu was born in a Vaishnava family. The native place of Comrade Madhu was Rangapuram village in Vangur mandal near Kalwakurthy in Mahabuubnagar district of Telangana. His original name was Srinivasachaaryulu and the surname was Mariganti. He lost his mother in his second year. Though his family belonged to a scholarly Brahmin community, the childhood of Madhu was spent in utter poverty. With great difficulty he completed his elementary education in Rangapuram and high school education in Kalwakurthy. After PUC and Degree, he completed Law course in Osmania University. During his educational career he used to do some petty jobs for his livelihood.  As a student he participated in student and literary movements and was influenced by Marxist ideology. By taking part in the students’ movements which accept Marxism as the world outlook he developed a special interest in literature. He played an important role in consolidating all the progressives into a forum and started ‘Yuvajana Sahithi’ in Kalwakurthy. He worked as the editor of ‘Prabhatha Geethi’, a youth manuscript magazine. His articles in that magazine represent his anger towards the system prevalent in the country. His role was important in publishing an anthology of progressive short stories, ‘Gaddi Puulu’ (Flowers of Grass) in 1964. He took active part in Visakha Steel Movement in 1966.

It was a turbulent time throughout the world with movements of students and Visakha Steel Movement and at the national level several other mass movements, the surprising election results of 1961, Naxalbari Peasant Movement surrounded the youth and student world. In this background Comrade Madhu selected a revolutionary life to liberate the masses and to mingle with the masses instead of selecting an individual professional career. So he broke his relation with his family bondage and became close to communists and organization of revolutionary movement.

IN ORGANISING THE REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT

Comrade Madhu became an activist in Hyderabad city at a time when communist revolutionaries under the leadership of Comrades Tarimela Nagireddy, Devulapalli Venkateswararao, Chandra Pulla Reddy, Kolla Venkayya started their activities in consolidating the organization after separating from CPI (M). They stood firmly on revolutionary mass line as against the annihilation of class enemy line of Comrade Charu Majumdar. It was a time when the Congress rulers oppressed the masses as they failed to solve the problems of the people in the midst of political and economic crisis. The leaders and activists of revolutionary movement marched forward by fighting against the repression let loose by the government. After arresting Comrade TN and DV in Madras the government foisted Hyderabad Conspiracy Case (Nagireddy Conspiracy Case) on 68 revolutionaries. In that critical situation Comrade Madhu took the responsibility of being the APRCC secretary of twin cities. He took the leadership role in developing relations with students and literary circles and built students’ organization as well as Navodaya literary and cultural organization and its organ ‘Jeeva Naadi.’ He was a part and parcel of the underground work in the plain area as a member of its regional committee headed by Comrade Neelam Ramachandraiah. The members of this committee are Comrades NR, Madhu, Yanala Malla Reddy, Ulligaddala Veeranna and Patharla Nagaiah.

GUIDING THE REVOLUTIONARY LITERARY FIELD

The annihilation of class enemy line, which came to the forefront among the revolutionaries after the Naxalbari Peasant Revolt, has spread to the literary sector also. It was the time when revisionist practice resulted in inactivity in different sectors. Breaking this inactivity prominent literary figures stood by the revolutionary line. In this situation different lines came to the forefront. Comrade Madhu in this context prepared a document ‘Cultural Revolution and Our Tasks’ as a guidance to revolutionary literary movement. Long before this in 1970 he wrote and published a critical review on a Telugu anthology of poems, ‘Thiragabadu Kavulu’ (Poets of Revolt). He proposed in his document the correct line to be followed by the revolutionary literary and cultural organization.

IN BUILDING THE REVOLUTIOARY POLITICAL THEORY……

At present in India the revolutionary movement is in a crisis and has several ups and downs. We are facing severe hindrances in supporting the mass line in revolutionary theoretical and practical sectors. Along with it, it became very difficult to consolidate the oppressed masses in the path of revolutionary movement and to maintain the mass movement for a long term.

Because of these hindrances, it became impossible for the unity of revolutionary forces and organizations. The lessons and experiences of the world communist movement and of Telangana (1946-1951), of Naxalbari (1969) teach us that only by the growth of mass consciousness and by growing in to a strong force we can defeat the institutionalized exploiting forms and the exploitation of the ruling classes. On different occasions, when we faced left adventurism and right reactionary lines preventing the unity of revolutionary movement, at the time of 1971 split, and during 76 split after the death of Comrade TN, in the split of Comrade DV, Comrade Madhu along with colleagues of his stature stood by the theoretical commitment for revolutionary politics. He played a primary role in 1989 in the unity process    of communist revolutionaries after reviewing on the basis of our experiences in the organizational conference of UCCRI (M.L.). He played a considerable role in the formation of CPI (M.L.) Janasakthi. After that he helped the unity process with New Initiative, COI (M.L.) and CPIU(M.L.) by not deviating from the basic theoretical and political understanding. He helped for the spreading of revolutionary movement, for the unity of revolutionaries throughout the country and was in the responsibility of central leadership in the central committee right from 1976 to his last breath on April 16, 2021.

Comrade Madhu involved in the movement from 1960s with a strong belief that the only solution to the liberation of the masses and for the progress of India is the building of revolutionary movement. CPI (M.L.) pays tribute to Comrade Madhu who lived to the last by considering the movement as his breath, revolution as his profession and Marxism, Leninism, Mao Thought as his scientific weapon. Within a year CPI (M.L.) lost several valuable comrades like Comrade Jaswanth. Recently several other comrades died while working in the revolutionary movement. We salute all of them.

Under the rule of feudal and big bourgeoisie for the last 75 years the plight of the people of India is degrading day by day. The big bourgeois and feudal classes are mortgaging all the resources to their imperialist lords. BJP is working with the aim of converting India into a Hindu state. It is protecting the capitalist economy, feudal culture and tradition to achieve its goal. It is totally destroying the rights of the people. It is suppressing the agitations of people by enacting acts against peasants and by using UAPA, sedition act etc. It is using politically cheap tactics like dividing people in the name of caste, religion, region etc. So this critical situation demands the unification of revolutionary masses. It is painful that we lose comrades who have to play an important role in fulfilling this task. Though comrades of new generation are filled with grief this gap is to be filled by them. We pay real tributes to Comrade Madhu and Comrade Jaswanth by accepting this responsibility.

In the month of July Comrades Tarimela Nagireddy, Comrade Devulapalli Venkateswararao and Comrade Charu Majumdar became martyrs. They are representatives of two different lines of revolution. Though there was serious protests and criticism on their lines, we pay our tributes to them also considering their dedication to the task of liberation of the masses of India from exploitation and repression. Our real tributes to all the martyrs will be to achieve unity among the revolutionaries

LET US GIRD UP OUR LIONS TO FULFIL THE TASKS LEFT TO US BY MARTYRS!

REVOLUTIONARY JOHARS TO MARTYRS!!

                With Revolutionary Greetings

CENTRAL COMMITTEE,

CPI(ML)
